IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

On the morning of August 1, 1916, I received an email from Kagi, the company that has handled product fulfillment for Mac iData products for the past 12 years or so.

I was very surprised to see that Kagi has ceased operations. You can read about it here.

The immediate result is that I currently have no sales outlet for iData Pro. Kagi did a wonderful job of handling all aspects of product sales, including keeping track of serial numbers and collecting various required taxes, such as VAT for European countries. I have neither the know-how nor the setup to handle online sales. (Nor the staff.)

My plan is to look for a replacement for Kagi. If you are interested in iData Pro, please check back here periodically. If this announcement has been removed, it will mean that iData Pro is again available.

In the meantime, iData Pro can still be downloaded and used without a serial number for 30 days. If you do not need the label & envelope printing, telephone dialing, and Web address "grabbing" capabilities of iData Pro, please consider iData Kwik, which is being sold through the Mac App Store for $29.99. It is otherwise identical to iData Pro.

See iData Kwik in the App Store

iData™Pro is a flexible, easy to use, database program that can handle any number of datafiles. You design each datafile with a freeform text area and any number of optional fields (or none at all).

Fields can be added to a datafile to provide more structure, and more options for sorting and selecting records.

The freeform text area can include notes, images, sound files, and small videos. Text in the freeform text area can have font and style changes such as bold and italic (rich text). Unicode fonts are supported, so a single record can contain text in a variety of languages, such as English, Japanese, Chinese, and Ukrainian.

Every datafile window has a Find box that is always available to make locating the desired record easy and fast, even in a datafile with thousands of records.

You can synchronize datafiles with another Mac, or with the iPad or iPhone running iData Mobile -- to take with you on the road. Datafiles for iData Mobile can be created and edited in iData Pro on the Mac, then uploaded to, and sychronized with, the mobile device. This makes data entry easier, using the larger Mac keyboard and iData Pro's extensive import and data manipulation features.

Embedded links to web pages, links to other records in that datafile, email addresses, and links for opening specific files on your hard drive or local network can be added either to a field or to the freeform text area.

Templates are provided for printing single or batch labels and envelopes. You can make your own templates with your return address, logo, or other images. Templates can even be created for printing business cards and custom forms. There is a quick print function for printing a single envelope or label from the current record.

NEW! How to encrypt and password protect your data.

Many other powerful and very useful functions are available in iData Pro. It is best to download it and try them yourself.

The downloaded file will contain the full version of iData Pro. It will run without a license for 30 days of actual use so that you have plenty of time to work with it before deciding to purchase.

iData Pro includes a detailed User Guide that is available through its Help menu.

Version 4 requires OS 10.7 or later. If you are using OS 10.5 or 10.6, you might be interested in iData 3.

iData 3 and iData Mobile datafiles automatically work with iData Pro 4. No modification is required.

Datafiles from iData 2, iData Pro 1.0, InfoGenie, and QuickDEX can be imported into iData Pro. See the instructions that come with the iData Pro download.

iData Pro is only available as a download from the link at the right. We do not provide CDs.

New Features in iData Pro 4.0, compared to iData 3

1. Added Dropbox synchronization. This replaces the old MobileMe synchronization option.

2. Added option to perform searches in Classic iData search style (find the next target each time a find button is clicked) or Filemaker search style (select all records containing the target, with a Select All button). This is toggled by clicking the magnifying glass to the left of the the Find Box.

3. Added option to enter search data in Find Box using Classic iData entry style ('&' to separate targets that are otherwise combined) or Search Engine entry style (spaces to separate targets, double quotes to combine multiple words into a single target). This is toggled by option-clicking the magnifying glass to the left of the the Find Box.

4. Added a Lock Button to the right of the Find Box. This button toggles the locked state of the current record. When the record is locked, the Lock Button icon is a locked padlock. When it is unlocked, it is an unlocked padlock. No text changes can be made to a locked record.

5. Added the following items to the Records sub-menu of the Edit menu: Lock All Records, Unlock All Records, and Undo Previous Lock/Unlock All.

7. Added Edit/Records/Delete All Selected Records menu item. Before deleting all selected records, the pre-deletion datafile is backed up to a Backups folder. The backed up datafile will have the format Datafile Name MM-DD-YY_hh•mm•ss. The backup process can be turned off using the Don't backup datafiles after Delete Selected Records option checkbox in the Special preference pane.

8. Added an Always restore the previous session when iData opens checkbox to the Special preference pane.

9. Added a Beep When Find Fails checkbox to the General preference pane.
