Syncing via WiFi

If you have a local wireless network set up, you can use it to transfer datafiles between the iPad and the Mac.

NOTE: If you have any concerns about the security of the data contained in a datafile that you are syncing via WiFi, be sure to use a password-protected Wifi network. Do not use something like the free WiFi connection at your local coffee shop. When in doubt, consider using Dropbox or iTunes file sharing.

Creating a Sync File via WiFi

First, you must create a datafile to be synchronized. This should be done on the Mac, since iData Pro actually performs all synchronization tasks.

Of course, if you already have some datafiles on the Mac, you can use those, as well.

Open the WiFi Server in iData Mobile

The first step is to turn on the built-in WiFi server in iData Mobile.

1. Close any open datafile or other window, so that you see the Datafiles window.

2. Tap the  button in the toolbar. This will bring up the following window.

3. Tap the WiFi Synchronization button. This will bring up the following window.

5. Leave this window open until the sync file creation process is completed.

Transfer the Sync File from the Mac

1. In iData Pro, create the new iData Mobile Plus datafile. Make sure that the field structure (if any) is what you need. (We recommend compact file names for use with iData Mobile.)

Skip this step if you want to transfer an existing datafile to the iPad.

2. With the datafile open and any changes saved, select Synchronize Datafiles... in the File menu. After a warning alert, you will see a dialog sheet giving you a choice of synchronization methods.

3. Click the Sync Through WiFi Network button. (Note: This option will only be available if you are synchronizing an iData Pro datafile, with the .id3 file name extension.)

4. Finally, you will see an  Uploading... progress panel in iData Pro. When the progress panel closes, you can tap the Close button in the upper left corner of the WiFi Synchronization window in iData Mobile to go back to the Datafiles window, where you will see the newly created datafile in the list.

Synchronizing a Datafile via WiFi

After making changes to a datafile in iData Pro and/or iData Mobile Plus, you can synchronize the datafile so that the changes appear in both copies.

Open the WiFi Server in iData Mobile

The first step is to turn on the built-in WiFi server in iData Mobile, as explained above.

As before, leave the WiFi Synchronization window open until the synchronization process is completed.

Perform Synchronization on the Mac

The entire synchronization procedure is carried out in iData Pro, as follows.

1. Open the datafile in iData Pro, and make sure that any changes are saved.

2. Select Synchronize Datafiles... in the File menu. After a warning alert, you will see a dialog sheet giving you a choice of synchronization methods.

3. Click the Sync Through WiFi Network button.

3. You will then see a  Downloading... progress panel, followed by a Synchronizing... panel. These will usually go by rather quickly, depending on the size of the datafile. Finally, you wil see an Uploading... panel. This part of the process is the longest.

4. When this progress panel closes, the Mac version of the datafile and the iPad version will be identical.  At this point you can tap the Close button in the upper left corner of the WiFi Synchronization window in iData Mobile to go back to the Datafiles window.
